Okay, now that’s taken care of, let’s talk #nailbizlogistics. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the simple definition of logistics is:
the things that must be done to plan and organize a complicated activity or event that involves many people
While #nailbizlogic refers to the structured, implemented, numbers-based part of running your nail business, I like to think the logistics of it refer to the tiny, repetitive parts that build into the strong foundation of your successful biz.
In other words, the TECHNICAL part of your business. The actual artistry & skill involved. Without that, it can be difficult to deliver your goods in a sustainable way–there’d be nothing to implement!
The scary part? Not all Nail Pros are created equal in the realm of natural talent. (Confession: when I first started doing nails, I kind of hated it because I wasn’t automatically good at it. Perfectionist problems.)
The good news? Poor logistics, bad technical habits or a perceived lack of innate talent is 100% improvable. It doesn’t matter if you are a salon owner, booth renter or salon employee. Hooray!
The challenging news: Improving upon your natural nail skills will require effort, time & dedication.
I can hear it now: “Okay, Mary, I get it. I should stay on top of industry advancements so I know I’m offering my clients the best services & consistently developing my professionalism. But I don’t have time for that!”
I totally get it! I used to feel that way, too. Then, I discovered TRADE SHOWS. For the time-sensitive, budget-conscious Nail Professional, it’s the perfect venue to get the most bang for your buck, stay on top of industry standards & maybe even make a few helpful friends.
Here are 5 reasons why:
1. Trade shows > Father Time.
Trade shows are the first place to find the new trends, fads & game-changing products & services. (Remember FeatherLocks?) You may not want to offer every new beauty fad in your salon, but at least you’ll be able to tell your clients about it when they ask.
2. It’s professional.
You have to hold a current beauty or business license to purchase a ticket. Non-licensed guests can attend, but they have to come with a current licensee or salon owner. This is a testament to the integrity of the education attendees will receive, both in the booth & in the classroom.
3. It’s an educational smorgasbord!
Seriously, the amount of education you can get in two days at a trade show would probably take you a year to scout out in your local area–if you’re lucky.
4. It’s easier than buying a car–NO haggling!
With hundreds of manufacturers on the floor offering discounted education, exclusive goodie bags & screamin’ deals on product, it isn’t just fun, it’s a #nailbizlogic no-brainer.
5. Two words: Play Stations.
Most manufacturers will have products available for on-the-spot trial. Depending on the exhibitor, you can get a dedicated demo, have all your questions answered & then get your hands dirty on different products before making up your mind & going with the best system for you.
BONUS REASON WHY TRADE SHOWS ROCK:
It’s a tax-deductible business trip! From your airline tickets, car rental & hotel to incidental food costs, all of it can be written off as business expenses. Ask your tax preparer for the exact deets!
However, you don’t have to travel across the country to reap the benefits of a trade show. Many times, distributors will host their own trade show with the same benefits of a national show. Be sure to ask your local store or full-service sales rep for these opportunities.
